Bitter-Sweet

The sweet:

Today in Romantics class, we finally started discussing in detail the life and legend of John Keats and I sat through the entirety of the lecture consumed with emotion, trying not to burst into tears of joy. Discussing this great man’s love and passions was a perfect compliment for the upcoming holiday (aka Valentine’s Day)and it left me dizzy with my head full of dazzling romantical inspirations. Everytime I leave that class, the world sparkles in new colours of brilliant vitality and I feel like twirling around, humming idle tunes and smiling at strangers. My soul absolutely belongs in the Romantic period and my overwhelming happiness in today’s class merely affirmed this belief further for me. It’s a joy as well to have such a fantastically passionate professor to convey the wonders of this revolutionary period to us. Anywho, besides my colourful digression, today’s Romantic lecture was a personal thrill for me and it made for the sweetest end to my Monday afternoon :)

The bitter:

Since this upcoming week marks the beginning of the blessed university holiday of ‘reading week’, some of my professors have decided to be angels and cancel Friday’s classes so we can start our vacation early. Unfortunately, that includes my Romantics professor. While I’m all for the early commencement of our holiday, Romantics (as you may have gathered from the sentiments above) is my absolute favourite class and I’m actually sad that I won’t be able to end my week with the uplifting inspiration those lectures always fill me with. It was a shock when the prof wished us a happy reading week at the end of lecture today and I was sincerely crestfalled as I realized there wouldn’t be another Romantics lecture until February 27th. I suppose I shall have to endure this bitter-sweet situation by drawing out my own copy of Keats’ complete works to appease my Romantic hungers for the duration of the break.
